The benefits of becoming an Enrollled Retirement Plan Agent (ERPA) go beyond being able to represent clients before the IRS on certain tax matters and the high set of ethical and conduct standards.  Additional information regarding the program is located at https://erpaexam.org/FAQs.aspx.   Plan Administrators of all educational backgrounds and experience are permitted to take the exams.  There is no bar to entry other than the ability to pass the exams and a willingness to commit to the standards of enrollment.   ERPA’s are required to pass testing on extensive retirement plan topics and to continue to receive education to maintain their enrolled status.  Of note, ERPA’s continued education includes two hours of ethics training illustrating the commitment to ethical standards.
