IRS Discontinues Letter Forwarding Program

The IRS recently released a new revenue procedure located at http://benefitslink.com/src/irs/revproc2012-35.pdf.   Rev Proc 2012-35 discontinued the IRS letter forwarding program for missing retirement plan participants.  Letter forwarding for “humane” purposes as described in the pdf will still be allowed.  The procedure indicates that the now available internet searches and other resources are behind the change.  In another blog post, I referenced resources for finding a lost pension.   A lot of the resources will work for both defined benefit and defined contribution plans.  The PBGC resource for such situations is located at http://www.pbgc.gov/docs/finding_a_lost_pension.pdf.

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!   Please be sure to sign up for my blog and follow me on twitter.
