Christine Gurney Discusses US Pensions

As a plan sponsor, there are many responsibilities that must be performed regarding your retirement plan.  When seeking out a third party administrator (TPA) or other service provider, what are plan sponsors looking for?  A service provider must compare different services provided for a given fee schedule against competitors’ fee schedules for the same services.  Do most plan sponsors review the fee schedule and service agreement to ensure it addresses all issues?  Does the plan sponsor review how disputes will be addressed or seek legal consult on the service agreement?  Unaddressed issues might cause one service provider to be more expensive than another.  A common surprise among TPA providers are undisclosed rush service fees.   Just a few ideas for plan sponsors to consider.
