Artist Retirement Alternative

I found an interesting article on entitled “Artists Paint Their Way to Retirement” by Jason Sanchez and located at It is important to note that, assuming the reporting is accurate, that this is not a true pension fund. It should not be mistaken with a qualified plan, and I am certainly not advocating its use. I actually think the deal seems particularly bad for the artists, but I did think it was interesting to share what was out there. Personally, I think a traditional retirement account route would be better, but since the artists hand over their own art rather than cash, it’s a gamble they are apparently willing to make.
